My Research Interest in RESIST |
Our major scientific interest in RESIST is the investigation of mechanisms of biofilm formation and resistance in patients with biofilm-associated periimplant infections. The long-term goal is the identification of biomarkers for periimplant infections and the development of new diagnostic systems and effective intervention strategies for the control of these chronic infections.
In pursuing this research programme, we build on our longterm experience with biofilm-associated periimplant infections and our Europe wide collection of biofilms, implants and implant-associated human tissues (Biobank). We have established innovative biofilm model systems that allow for the investigation of new anti-biofilm strategies in vitro, in vivo and in silico. Over the course of the next 6 years we want to gain new insights into biofilm resistance mechanisms that have the potential to discover new and promising targets for diagnostics and effective anti-biofilm therapies.
