My Research Interest in RESIST

The increased risk of infections of the skin in the course of the chronic inflammatory skin disease atopic dermatitis has been my research focus over the last years. Especially the cellular immune response to Staphylococcus aureus and Herpes simplex virus are of interest, since infections can lead to a severe burden and  life-threatening complications for a subgroup patients. My research targets deep characterization and enumeration of specific T cells in order to understand the composition of this heterogeneous cell group, and to estimate its impact on the skin. I also studied T cell and keratinocyte cytokine responses to allergens and their effects on the skin barrier. I am participating in managing the RESIST senior individuals cohort, that investigates the ageing of the immune system and the associated risk of suffering from various infectious diseases.
