On 30 November, Prof. Hengel, Institute of Virology, Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg, will give a lecture. The title of the lecture ist: „Fcγ – an embattled hub of pro- and antiviral immune effector functions”.
This seminar will take place from 5 to 6 pm in lecture theatre Q, building J6, MHH.

Background information on the lecture:
Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is endowed with hundreds of gene functions that influence the antiviral immune response. We identified several HCMV genes (IRL11/TRL11, UL119_118, TRL12) encoding Fcγ-recognising glycoproteins that influence IgG-mediated effector responses by blocking or exploiting host Fcγ receptors. Therefore, our team developed novel and practical approaches to study the conditions for triggering individual FcγRs by different receptor ligands, including soluble multimeric immune complexes and C-reactive protein (CRP). The results highlight the Fcγ module as a central hub between adaptive and innate immunity, making this interface an attractive target for novel immune intervention strategies in patients.
