Exciting topics, interestingly presented: Every Thursday, RESIST scientists or top-class researchers from external institutions present their topics at the RESIST seminar series.

Attend these exciting seminars of the Cluster of Excellence RESIST, as a member of RESIST or as a colleague or student.

On 21 May 2026 at 1 p.m., Prof. Dr. Martin Hofmann-Apitius, Coordinator COMMUTE project & Head of the Department of Bioinformatics at Fraunhofer Institute for Algorithms and Scientific Computing (SCAI), will give a lecture with the title “Did the Pandemic increase our risk to develop Alzheimer or Parkinson? The COMMUTE project, a systematic approach to decipher co-morbidity between infectious and non-infectious diseases”.

Martin Hofmann-Apitius is working on complex-problem-solving environments for translational biomedicine. The application focus of his computational work is in neurodegeneration and psychiatry; on the computer science side, he integrates data- and knowledge-based modeling to identify pathophysiology mechanisms suitable for mechanism-based stratification of patient subgroups that can and should be treated based on the underlying disease mechanisms. His most recent project extends that concept towards the reality of co-morbidities.

The lecture will take place in Lecture Hall Q, Building J06 of the Hannover Medical School.
