Exciting topics, interestingly presented: Every first and third Thursday (except during school holidays), RESIST scientists or top-class researchers from external institutions present their topics at the RESIST seminar series.

The lecture to be held on 29 January 2026 at 1 p.m. will be given by Dr. Werner Ouwendijk from the HerpeslabNL at Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, and Prof. Mark Wills from the University of Cambridge. 

Dr. Werner Ouwendijk from the The HerpeslabNL, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam will talk about “Chromatin modulation by Varicella-Zoster Virus”.

Werner Ouwendijk’s team is doing research focused on the molecular basis of herpesvirus latency and reactivation, with an emphasis on the human alpha-herpesviruses varicella-zoster virus (VZV) and herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1).

Prof. Mark Wills from the University of Cambridge will give a lecture with the title “Anti-HCMV Adaptative Immunity in the Elderly & Transplant Patients: Role of Immune Checkpoint pathways”

Mark Wills and his team are doing research on
•Understanding the cellular immune response to Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV).
•HCMV Immune recognition and evasion following Solid organ transplantation
•HCMV Immune dysfunction of T cell responses  in  old age
•Immune recognition of HCMV latent and reactivating cells

The lecture will take place in Lecture Hall Q, Building J01 of the Hannover Medical School.
