RESIST in the podcast “Exzellent erkl\u00e4rt – Spitzenforschung f\u00fcr alle”\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new episode of the podcast “Exzellent erkl\u00e4rt – Spitzenforschung f\u00fcr alle” is online (in German language) and it is all about RESIST’s research!<\/p>\n

The focus is on how we can protect premature and newborn babies from dangerous infections. Professor Dr Dorothee Viemann explains that the immune system of premature babies often reacts too strongly to invading bacteria or viruses, which can lead to inflammations of the blood, lungs or intestines. These infections can also become life-threatening. It is not known exactly why this is so. New concepts of prevention and therapy are needed – also because the time after birth influences susceptibility to allergies and infections as well as chronic inflammatory bowel diseases later in life.<\/p>\n

Professor Viemann is a specialist in paediatrics and adolescent medicine and a researcher in the RESIST Cluster of Excellence team. She heads the Experimental Neonatology Working Group of the Department of Paediatric Pneumology, Allergology and Neonatology at MHH as well as the Department of Translational Paediatrics, which is part of the University Hospital W\u00fcrzburg and the Centre for Infection Research (ZINF) at the University of W\u00fcrzburg.<\/p>\n

The scientists talk with podcaster Larissa Vassilian about how they want to find scientifically sound answers to relevant topics of our time – for the society of tomorrow.<\/p>\n
