SUMMARY:RESIST Seminar guest lecture by Prof. Jacobsen
DESCRIPTION:Exciting topics\, interestingly presented: Every first and third Thursday (except during school holidays)\, RESIST scientists or top-class researchers from external institutions present their topics at the RESIST seminar series. \nAttend these exciting seminars of the Cluster of Excellence RESIST\, as a member of RESIST or as a colleague or student. \nOn 2 November\, Prof. Jacobsen from the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology\, Jena\, will give a lecture. \nThe title of the lecture is: “The impact of microbiota and antibiotics on the host response to systemic infections.” \nIlse Jacobsen has a longs-standing interest in the pathogenesis of severe infections\, with a focus on invasive fungal infections\, and the role of the immune response for disease development. More recently\, her lab began exploring the impact of the intestinal microbiota\, the cross-talk between mucosal and systemic immune response\, and the impact of dysbiosis on disseminated infections. \nThis seminar will take place from 5 to 6 pm in lecture theatre Q\, building J6\, MHH. \nIf you are interested in participating via video (online)\, please contact RESIST@mh-hannover.de. \nDo you have any questions or suggestions about the RESIST seminar series? Then please contact us.

SUMMARY:RESIST Seminar guest lecture by Prof. Dalpke
\nOn 23 November\, Prof. Dalpke\, Department of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene\, Heidelberg University Hospital\, will give a lecture. The title of the lecture ist: „Recognition of bacterial RNA by the innate immune system“. \nThis seminar will take place from 5 to 6 pm in lecture theatre Q\, building J6\, MHH. \nCurrent Focus of Research of Prof. Dalpke:\nA Immunostimulation by nucleic acids: We are studying the recognition of microbial nucleic acids by pattern recognition receptors. We try to elucidate principles that enable Toll-like receptors to differentiate foreign\, microbial from self nucleic acids. Specifically\, we address the importance of RNA modifications and RNA processing on immune stimulation. Current projects address the functions of RNases in TLR7/8 stimulation. We are also interested in longterm effects of bacterial encounter on innate immune cells.\nB Microbiome analysis in cystic fibrosis. In this project we study polymicrobial infections by means of next generation sequencing. We focus on patients suffering from cystic fibrosis (CF) but also use the technique to explore microbiome changes in other diseases. In CF we aim to analyze microbiome alterations in early childhood as well as during exacerbation and focus on interactions of commensal and pathogenic bacteria. \nIf you are interested in participating via video (online)\, please contact RESIST@mh-hannover.de. \nDo you have any questions or suggestions about the RESIST seminar series? Then please contact us.

SUMMARY:RESIST Seminar guest lecture by Prof. Hengel
\nOn 30 November\, Prof. Hengel\, Institute of Virology\, Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg\, will give a lecture. The title of the lecture ist: „Fcγ – an embattled hub of pro- and antiviral immune effector functions”. \nThis seminar will take place from 5 to 6 pm in lecture theatre Q\, building J6\, MHH. \nIf you are interested in participating via video (online)\, please contact RESIST@mh-hannover.de. \nBackground information on the lecture:\nHuman cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is endowed with hundreds of gene functions that influence the antiviral immune response. We identified several HCMV genes (IRL11/TRL11\, UL119_118\, TRL12) encoding Fcγ-recognising glycoproteins that influence IgG-mediated effector responses by blocking or exploiting host Fcγ receptors. Therefore\, our team developed novel and practical approaches to study the conditions for triggering individual FcγRs by different receptor ligands\, including soluble multimeric immune complexes and C-reactive protein (CRP). The results highlight the Fcγ module as a central hub between adaptive and innate immunity\, making this interface an attractive target for novel immune intervention strategies in patients. \nDo you have any questions or suggestions about the RESIST seminar series?
