SUMMARY:RESIST Seminar guest lecture by Roberto Cattaneo\, PhD
DESCRIPTION:Exciting topics\, interestingly presented: Every Thursday\, RESIST scientists or top-class researchers from external institutions present their topics at the RESIST seminar series. \nAttend these exciting seminars of the Cluster of Excellence RESIST\, as a member of RESIST or as a colleague or student. \nOn MONDAY\, 15 June 2026 at 1 p.m.\, Roberto Cattaneo\, PhD\, Mayo Clinic\, US\, will give a lecture with the title “Lethal measles virus spread in the brain: selection of mutant populations relocating viral proteins to neurites and recalibrating cell fusion”. \nThe Cattaneo group seeks to understand how viruses interact with their hosts and cause disease. We characterized how measles virus enters immune cells by using a specific receptor\, then causes immunosuppression by massively replicating in lymphatic organs.  We identified another cellular protein expressed in the upper airways’ epithelium that accounts for efficient host exit\, explaining why measles virus is so contagious.  Current research focuses on the mechanisms supporting cell-associated measles virus transfer to the brain\, and subsequent genetic adaptation resulting in a rare but always lethal disease\, subacute sclerosing panencephalitis. \nThe lecture will take place in Lecture Hall Q\, Building J06 of the Hannover Medical School. \nIf you are interested in participating via video (online)\, please contact RESIST@mh-hannover.de. \nDo you have any questions or suggestions about the RESIST seminar series? Then please contact us.

SUMMARY:RESIST Seminar guest lecture by Nonia Pariente\, PhD
DESCRIPTION:Exciting topics\, interestingly presented: Every Thursday\, RESIST scientists or top-class researchers from external institutions present their topics at the RESIST seminar series. \nAttend these exciting seminars of the Cluster of Excellence RESIST\, as a member of RESIST or as a colleague or student. \nOn FRIDAY\, 19 June 2026 at 1 p.m.\, Nonia Pariente\, PhD\, Editor-in-Chief\, PLOS Biology\, will give a lecture with the title “Behind the scenes of scientific publishing”. \nThe talk will give an overview of the processes that take place in a scientific journal\, from submission of a study to the final decision\, be it acceptance or rejection. This will include how editors make decisions at every stage\, how reviewers are selected and what is expected of them\, as well as advice to navigate the process effectively as an author. Finally\, the talk will give a glimpse into the life of a scientific editor. \nShort BIO:\nNonia received a degree in Biochemistry and a PhD in Molecular Biology from the Autonoma University of Madrid\, the latter for studies on RNA virus evolution and new antiviral strategies in the lab of Esteban Domingo. Nonia then moved to UCLA for postdoctoral research\, where she focused on developing lentiviral vectors for gene therapy in Irvin Chen’s laboratory. In 2007\, Nonia joined the EMBO reports editorial team and over 8 years\, held various editorial roles in which she was responsible for a broad range of topics within molecular and cell biology. In 2015\, Nonia joined the launch team of Nature Microbiology and\, after handling microbiology at Nature for a year\, became Chief Editor of Nature Microbiology in 2019. In March 2020\, Nonia joined PLOS Biology as Editor-in-Chief.
